180 Youth Adventures Inner City Proposal

The 180 Degrees Trust has advised Regenerate Christchurch of its plans to establish an inner city youth facility which would offer exciting ventures to young people who struggle with mainstream education or who have simply lost their way. This new facility will be funded and established through donations, with operational expenses contingent on the existing contracts which the trust has with the MSD and the MoE.

Young people will be offered the chance to be part of the regeneration of the Red Zone. Not only will they will be offered formal education and the chance to attain NCEA credits on this site through the 180 Alternative Education Course but they will also be able to participate in the various outdoor learning activities such as horse riding in the riding school, the propagation of native plants in the onsite nursery and kayaking.

The term “adventure” encompasses many activities ranging from our traditional expeditions into the Canterbury high country to learning about computers, the arts or opportunities in the employment sector. The trust will welcome additional at risk young people attending other development programmes in Christchurch. This 180 Youth Adventures facility is an exciting chance for vulnerable youth in Canterbury to have a place in the city and be able to look back in years to come and know they have played a part in regenerating the Red Zone.
